I apparently live in a cave (in which the television is not turned on very often and when it is the only “reality” shows I will watch are The Dog Whisperer (is that considered a reality show?) and Dancing with the Stars – yeah, yeah, yeah, so shoot me) because I don’t watch American Idol and I had never before heard of MeMe Roth.  But I saw on Feministe today that MeMe Roth is some self-appointed fat cop who thinks if a woman isn’t thin enough for her liking, she shouldn’t be allowed on a show like American Idol, much less win.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong – and I very well could be because I’ve never watched more than about two minutes of American Idol – but isn’t it a talent show?

If I’m right and it is a talent show, then I don’t know what the contestant’s weight has to do with the price of tea in China.  She’s either talented enough to win or she is not.  Why is her weight a factor?
