Grade: Incomplete
Alaska Governor (and former Vice Presidential candidate) Sarah Palin is quitting mid term. According to all the news stories, effective July 25th, she’s handing over the reins to her Lieutenant Governor.
Why? Good question.
It’s possible she got tired of being the brunt of jokes.
It’s possible she got tired of politics.
It’s possible there’s a serious health issue.
It’s possible she wants to concentrate on a presidential run in 2012.
It’s possible there’s a scandal on the horizon and she chose to bow out of the spotlight before it comes to light.
It’s possible she just got bored.
Whatever the reason, she is refusing to finish the job she asked the people of Alaska to give her and she’s refusing to give her constituents a good reason.
Pretty lame, if you ask me. But, hey, good riddance.

I can understand Leaving politics for personal, health or family, but I can’t imagine that failing to complete a full-term as governor would leave her in any sort of serious position to run for President of the United States. She’ll be (rightfully) labeled as a quitter and unable to finish her job or fulfill her duties.

Precisely, Thomas, which is why my theory is that the reason she is leaving office would have to pretty much preclude her from a run for president in 2012 anyway. Americablog and Raw Story opine an embezzlement scandal a la Ted Stevens.

>>It’s possible she wants to concentrate on a presidential run in 2012.<<
I keep seeing this as a possible reason. But she’d have to be delusional to think she has a chance… right? Or is she more popular among the Republicans than I think.

I’m not sure how popular she is amongst Republicans. But how can you possibly ask to be elected to another public office, especially president, when you couldn’t even be bothered to finish out the term of the last office you held?

The good thing is that she has now shot herself in the foot in terms of an attempt for the presidency. All anyone has to do now to discredit her is point to her “quitter” status, and that will pretty much be that.
