No Pudge

I’m a chocoholic.  But, in my defense, it’s not my fault.  It’s genetic and I got it from my mother, who lovingly taught me that when you’re having an attack and there’s nothing else chocolate in the house, you can open a container of chocolate frosting (always kept in the basement pantry, a/k/a bomb shelter) and eat the stuff directly out of the container with a spoon.  I would also occasionally get a spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar and then dip the spoon in a bag of chocolate chips.  I didn’t learn that one from my mother though.  She likes peanut butter and she likes chocolate, but she doesn’t like them together.  I know.  Weird.  What can I say?

However, since I’m sometimes apt to lose control of myself and eat a half a container of Betty Crocker frosting in one sitting, I usually don’t keep the stuff in the house.  Instead, I keep chocolate in the freezer… peanut butter cups work well this way.

But I just noticed something wonderful yesterday.  I was making one of my favorites, No Pudge Fudge Brownies, which, while not calorie-free are fat-free, because Al and I both wanted something chocolate.  Okay, he wanted something sweet (other than moi) and I wanted something chocolate.  Close enough.  Anyway, on the side of the box, there are instructions for making a single serving:

Yes, I know it’s blurry.  Talk to the iPhone.  The batteries are charging for the real camera.  Take my word for it, it says, “Single Serving Recipe.”

Anyway, this completely eliminates any possible wastefulness*, especially for those of us who either live alone or with just one other person.  Now, granted, the full recipe doesn’t make a ton (one 9 x 9 inch baking pan), but if you just have a craving for a little schmakeral of chocolate, this is the way to go.

*Around here, we don’t have to worry so much about wastefulness of the No Pudge Fudge Brownies (those suckers are absolutely delicious – moist, chewy, and very chocolatey) because I don’t think a brownie has ever gone stale in this house, but we do have to worry about waist fullness
