Are You Ready for Some Baseball?

A lot of people I’ve been talking to lately have expressed exasperation at how long our winter is lasting.  My retort?  It’s February in Erie.  As long as I can remember, February in Erie has pretty much sucked.  It’s when cabin fever moves into full swing.  It’s when I dream of being able to go for a walk in sneakers instead of boots and too look outside and see green instead of white or mud.  It’s when I start doing more laundry just to give me an excuse to go down to the basement and look longingly at my bike.

At 1:05 this afternoon, there’s a Red Sox* exhibition game v. Boston College and at 7:05 this evening, the team has its first spring training game against the Twins.

Spring has sprung.  In Florida.

Here in Erie, it’s supposed to be in the 40s for the next couple of days … followed by a couple of more cold days (20s).

Because it’s still winter.  In Erie.

What a difference a few hundred miles can make, eh?

The moral of this story?  Spring training games have begun, which means better weather is right around the corner.  Just a little longer.  We’re heading into one of the best parts about living in Erie… the end of winter, the green of spring, our excellent summers, and our colorful, crisp autumns.  Winter’s okay, just not my favorite, but the other three seasons make up for it.

Anyway, if you’ve got a case of the I’m-so-tired-of-snow blues, take heart.  Spring training games in Florida = the end of winter in Erie is nigh.

Oh, and if you’re ready for some live-and-in-person baseball, like those of us at the Steinfeld Estate, local baseball kicks off its 2009 season on April 1st.
