40 Grit
So, I guess I left off with having 17 3M staples removed from my body and having them replaced with a dozen 3M Steri-strip bandages.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of itching with the staples, but it was secondary to the pinching the staples caused, not to mention my paranoia that a staple (or 17) would catch on something and be ripped from my flesh. It wasn’t a pretty image.
Once the staples were removed and replaced by the bandages and the nurse commented on how well my incision was healing, I was much less worried about causing myself harm, which gave me much more time to concentrate on the itching. Oh, the itching.
So, being the great guy that he is, at my request, Al went out to purchase me some cocoa butter. My mom used cocoa butter on her incision after her knee replacement surgery and her scar doesn’t look too bad, so I figured I’d give it a try, and I was hopeful that it would also help the itching caused by healing.
And it did, somewhat, along with using my fingernails to scratch around the incision. But it didn’t make the itching go away, it just made it slightly more tolerable.
I considered going down to the basement where I knew we had various and sundry grades of sandpaper, thinking perhaps I could find some nice 40 grit to rub on my incision, but then I just figured the abrasions that was result would itch as they eventually healed.
And so, the cocoa butter continued. And continued. And continued. Until the point that I thought my clothes were going to just slide right off my body.
The good news? My hands are soft as a baby’s ass.

If you get tired of the cocoa butter, give Mederma a try.

Hmmm, I’d never heard of that before, but from what I read on the website (don’t you just love Google?), it sounds interesting. I think I might pick some up the next time I’m at the drug store … and, according to the amount of pressure I’ve been putting on the toothpaste tube lately, that will probably be pretty soon.
