Nattering Naybobs of Negativity
In the past week and a half, I’ve gotten five…count them, five…flyers in the mail from Phil English and/or the NRCC regarding the PA-3 congressional race.
Interestingly, not one of them told me anything about Phil English or what he has accomplished in the past 14 years. The flyers weren’t suggesting who I should vote FOR, they were suggesting who I should vote AGAINST.
Every single one of them has been a negative advertisement against English’s opponent, Kathy Dahlkemper. And not just your run-of-the-mill negative advertisment. These advertisements contain complete misrepresentations of Ms. Dahlkemper’s positions and blatant lies.
Why doesn’t the NRCC spend its money telling us why we should elect Mr. English, as opposed to why we shouldn’t elect Ms. Dahlkemper? Hmm? Maybe because they can’t come up with a good reason.
Congressman English’s 14 years representing PA-03 have been amazingly lackluster. He may sponsor bills, but he can’t get much passed. Maybe that’s because even his own party doesn’t pay much attention to him. After all, it was just two years ago, in 2006, when Congressman English was vying for the position of Chair of the NRCC. He lost that bid to Representative Tom Cole (OK-04). And Congressman Cole was elected to the House in 2002.
So, let’s think about this… all those people out there that would have us believe that Mr. English’s supposed seniority in the House actually does us any good…what good has it done us, exactly? He can’t get bills passed and he can’t even win his own party’s support in a bid for the NRCC chairmanship.
If you’re looking for someone who can actually get something done in Congress, I would look to the Democratic nominee. She may not have 14 years of seniority (which hasn’t done a lick of good for English anyway), but, as a freshman member of the majority party, she’s got a much better chance at a good position in Congress than a do-nothing, washed-up career politician who doesn’t even garner much support from his own party, much less the other party.

ugh…English…what an a-hole….
I received that crap too. I actually put it in an envelope and mailed it back to whence it came. Cost me a dollar to mail but it’s worth it.

Those fliers go immediately into the recycling although I do like Still Visiting’s idea. And the NRCC does not have fliers about Fatty English because there is nothing positive to say about him and they don’t know how to do anything but sling mud.

I had a guy come to my door canvassing for Kathy Dahlkemper. When he started talking I politely interrupted him and said I’d make his stop really easy, and that I was already voting for her and I’d love a big old sign on my lawn. I shook his hand and told him I’d rather save him some time getting more votes. I hope he changed some minds!
Phil English is going to have a very somber Thanksgiving (until the dinner bell is rung that is), and he’ll probably score some cushy lobbyist job. However, if Obama is elected and we see some lessening of the influence lobbyists have, Phil might be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
