It Was…Eh
So, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice isn’t going to get big ratings from me. The wardrobe was great; the acting was good; the premise was interesting. But, it just didn’t do it for me. Maybe it was just too dated?
I always thought I was born too late and that had I been born in the 50s rather than the 60s, I would have made a most excellent hippy. I’m now reconsidering that theory. Maybe I would have fit in better with the beatniks than the hippies, because anyone who knows me will confirm that I’m not big on the touchy-feely stuff with strangers or mere acquaintances, so the opening scene of the movie was definitely not something I’d be into. It actually eeriely reminded me of some of the clips I saw of Charles Manson’s followers. No, no, no, no one had the crazy Charlie eyes, but it was the cultish-like talk of love and hugging and what-not. And, of course, the clothes.
One of the funniest scenes was Alice at her shrink’s office. Is it just me or was the shrink creepy looking?
While the film was mildly amusing (mostly because of its datedness), I don’t think it’s one I’ll be renting again. Once was plenty.
And, if Al comes home and tells me he “balled” (people actually used that expression?) someone in San Francisco, suffice it to say that the conversation would not end with us having at it on the bathroom floor a la Bob and Carol.

Guy 1: I think my sister wants to lose all of her hair.
Guy 2: Really? What makes you think that?
Guy 1: I overheard her tell a friend she wanted to get balled.
I can’t remember *not* knowing that joke. So it must be 30 years old or more.

[...] Steinfeld recently did a review of Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, so I thought I would write about Love [...]
