Great News
In a world full of bad news, it’s always refreshing to find some good news out there…and today I found some.
According to a Newsweek article, sex is healthy! Can I get an amen?
The Newsweek article lists six areas where having an abundant sex life (defined as dancing the mattress mambo at least once a week) is beneficial:
- Protects against colds and flu
- Keeps you looking younger
- Burns calories
- Eases migraines
- Promotes regular menstrual cycles
- Protects against urinary incontinence
Now there’s an exercise program I can stick to!

Emma,
As much as I would like to believe this, and even encourage this sort of “exercise program”, I suspect the study has a flaw in its methodology.
This is kind of like the study that showed that people who eat chocolate live longer. The statistics are true, but it doesn’t prove that chocolate is good for you. After all, who doesn’t eat chocolate? People whose doctors have told them not to, because they have some disease like diabetes, or a food allergy, or they are taking meds that react badly to chocolate. Since chocolate-eaters are generally healthier, they tend to live longer.
I suspect that since healthier people are more sexually active (duh), that the scientists are confusing correlation and causation and therefore coming to the conclusion that they know will get printed in Newsweek.

Or…the study could be absolutely correct.

Well, hell, that goes without saying. I was just thrilled that there were more physical benefits than I thought! And, not for nothing, but I can personally attest to #4; #3 goes without saying; as for #2, I’ve been told I look younger than my years; I rarely get colds or the flu; and I haven’t had a problem with either #5 or #6.
