While the Jacksonville Daily News has no election day updates, they have updated the site to name the new Superintendent for Onslow County Schools: Kathy Spencer. Ms. Spencer previously worked in the Onslow County Schools as an Assistant Superintendent.

It makes one wonder why the School Board felt the need to hire an outside consultant to assist in searching for the new superintendent when they hired a local face.

August 1st’s print edition has the Onslow County Schools’ Adequate Yearly Progress numbers. The article is online here

According to the article, just over 65% of the schools made the goals set out for them through the No Child Left Behind act. This is nearly more than 10% fewer than last year.

From the article…

“We look at it as there’s another piece of data that can help us with some improvements or some ongoing changes,” said Lisa Thompson, Onslow schools testing and data analyst. “We by no means feel like that means our system or our schools are failing.”

The numbers are still not available online. If anyone goes to the school board meeting tonight, ask for the documentation on the report. If you get something, please scan and email to me.

Added on update: The Schools information is available here. It appears that the numbers in the Jacksonville Daily News article are wrong. 63%, not 65%, of the schools made the required progress.

Is still not available. It’s been nearly two weeks since the scores were released from the State Department of Instruction.

First reported on this web-log here, the Schools’ are concerned over a possible discrepancy in the scores.

If anyone’s attending the School Board meeting tomorrow (7pm at the Family Education Center in Jacksonville), please ask them about the scores. I will not be there, as I have a previous engagement. If you do ask, please respond here or email the address to let me know what was said.

The new school year will be starting soon…Don’t you want to know how the District performed last year? I do…I bet you do, too.
