If you saw goofy WordPress error codes on the BrockLog earlier today, I apologize. My database was clogged and tired and needed a bit of lovin’. All should be good, so no worries. I am sorry for any inconvenience, though.

Newly elected Jacksonville City Councilman Jerome Willingham runs the clock out on embezzlement charges. One JDNews commenter says: “Oh goody, next time I am in trouble with the law, I am going to run for a political office so that the charges are dropped.”

Oh, goody, indeed.

Who in the Onslow County Schools system decided nachos were a nutritious lunch? I want their name and, then, I want their head on a platter. More on this soon.

Barry Bonds has been charged with perjury and obstruction of justice for his behavior in front of a grand jury. Could Barry be looking at a different kind of “bases on balls” in federal prison?

Is Tommy Glavine heading back to Atlanta? I hope not. As a decades long Braves fan and a huge fan of Glavine growing up, I was disheartened and hurt by his money-motivated move to the Mets. A return to Atlanta would only serve to validate his betrayal in 2003. Plus, Glavine of 2008 won’t be Glavine of 2002. That means the Braves are buying broken merchandise, friends, and that’s a bad deal any day of the week.

In what can only be described as the most retarded idea ever conceived in the educational system, elementary school teaches conducted a mock attack against 6th graders during a field trip. Oh, yes, it’s true.

AP by way of The Huffington Post.

Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables.

The mock attack Thursday night was intended as a learning experience and lasted five minutes during the weeklong trip to a state park, said Scales Elementary School Assistant Principal Don Bartch, who led the trip.

I remember from my long ago school days the requisite fire, tornado, and even nuclear attack (duck and cover, heh) drills. Even, if they weren’t advertised as drills (which I recall they were), seem so much more reasonable than any sort of pretend attack, especially an unplanned attack drill which was specifically denied to be pretend.

Lately, the Onslow County Schools administration has done some pretty asinine things. I certainly hope that they do not get the idea that a pretend attack drill is something worth trying. Believe me: It’s not.

While the Jacksonville Daily News has no election day updates, they have updated the site to name the new Superintendent for Onslow County Schools: Kathy Spencer. Ms. Spencer previously worked in the Onslow County Schools as an Assistant Superintendent.

It makes one wonder why the School Board felt the need to hire an outside consultant to assist in searching for the new superintendent when they hired a local face.

From today’s Jacksonville Daily News. Is the County having a hard time finding a new Superintendent? Maybe it’s because the County’s performance is sinking?

Onslow County Schools now knows who will lead the district while the Board of Education looks for a new superintendent, and it’s a familiar face. On Tuesday, the Board of Education announced that former Deputy Superintendent Freddie Canady will act as…

Daniel McNamara has a piece in today’s print edition of the Jacksonville Daily News and online here regarding the recent school years’ grading by the US Department of Education and NC Department of Public Instruction. The scores were released to school districts on Tuesday, July 18th, but have yet to be released to the public. There’s an apparent discrepancy between what Onslow County thought they were getting and the actual score.

Onslow County Schools just completed their second year of needing improvement. Should the schools not meet the grade this year, sanctions would be put into effect. I wrote about this earlier this week.

More information on Onslow County Schools’ performance can be found at the NC Report Card website.

Onslow County Schools may be sanctioned, if the District hasn’t met the requirements for the 2005-2006 year. The results for this year will be released tomorrow.

Onslow County Schools is in year two of improvements as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.

Hopefully, if the schools haven’t made the grade, a new District Administration can correct the deficiencies.

Districts that fall short under No Child Left Behind will see ‘corrective action.’.
