2009: A New Year for Personal Goals

Monday, December 29th, 2008

This is part of an ongoing series of posts on my 2009 goals.
My personal goals for 2009 are much more complicated than my bicycling goals…On the bicycle, all I have to do is get my behind onto the saddle and pedal. Personal stuff is hard and requires effort. Personal goals often accentuate my past [...]

2009: A New Year for Bicycling Goals

Friday, December 26th, 2008

I’m not a big fan of making “New Year’s resolutions”, but I like having goals. So, here’s my list of goals for 2009:

Commute 5,000 miles by bicycle – This is pretty easy. In January my commute will extend from 6.5ish miles to 11ish miles. That’ll make for 112ish mile weeks, 450ish mile months and over [...]

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Remember my letter to the Jacksonville City Council regarding the vacancy in the Trails and Greenways Commission? It may have had an impact…
I was nominated and appointed to the Trails and Greenways Commission during Wednesday’s council meeting.
The video is below.

Some notes:

Apparently, they got my letter. Mayor Phillips and Councilwoman Williams specifically mentioned it.
Councilman Thomas, [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 10 in Review

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Yes, it’s a Thursday week in review. I only worked three days this week. Don’t be jealous.
It’s been cold ‘round these parts. I’ve upgraded the cold-weather gear to my short-sleeved athletic shirt under a sweatshirt and a fleece pull-over. I wear long-fingered gloves over the cycling gloves and have neoprene ear-muffs. So far, it’s been [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 6 in Review

Friday, September 26th, 2008

You know, I may have to “suspend” the week in review posts if nothing exciting happens…
It’s been another week of pedaling to and from work without real incident.
It’s been a bit chilly (upper 60s/lower 70s) in the mornings. It’s also been damp and windy, what with a tropical storm having developed off the coast [...]

Food Pantries?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

As I was doing laundry today, I noticed a flier for the Angel Food Ministries. It’s an organization that provides food through a network of churches throughout the U.S. There are two churches locally that provide the service (Queens Creek United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church). The menu for May (and I’m guessing [...]

Friday Night Biking and Saturday Yoga

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The Friday evening bike home was fabulous. I took a nice and slow pace (59 minues) and really enjoyed the views, smells, and the quiet (Well, the mostly quite…There are a few stretches of the path which are parallel to the streets)…
To be honest, I think the bicycling will do wonders for some recent stress [...]

Bike to Work: Day 1

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Dude. Riding the bike to work is teh hawesome.
The path is mostly clean, smooth, and quiet. No rushing traffic, no stupid drivers, no loud music. It was great!
The newly finished pedestrian and fishing bridge over Northeast Creek is definitely a highlight of the ride. It’s built on the remains of an old railroad trestle. It’s a [...]
