If only we had known before Election Day…

I was nominated and appointed to the Trails and Greenways Commission during Wednesday’s council meeting.

Some notes:

• Apparently, they got my letter. Mayor Phillips and Councilwoman Williams specifically mentioned it.
• Councilman Thomas, surprisingly moved to close the nomination and voted for my appointment. The letter to the editor he mentions toward the end was not particularly in his favor. I appreciate his lack of a grudge.
• It was a unanimous vote. That really surprised me as I’m often considered a pretty severe critic of the City of Jacksonville and the City Council.

I will be blogging about the Trails and Greenways Commission meetings and activities. My hope is to get more residents of Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune involved in making Jacksonville a safer and more enjoyable place for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Bo Diddley, the musical pioneer whose songs, such as “Who Do You Love?” and “Bo Diddley,” melded rhythm and blues and rock ‘n’ roll through a distinctive thumping beat, has died. He was 79.

Thank you, Bo, for the way you revolutionized music.
