2010: The Obligatory Goals Post

It’s a new year. And that means new goals. Many of my goals are the same as last year…Goals that I’ve failed at achieving. But, we never let failure stop us from trying to succeed. We’d really never get anything done if we did!
There’s a number of things I want to do this year.
Writing: [...]

Activism: An Opportunity for a Better Bicyclist Protection Act

Earlier this evening, HB 1451 – Bicycle Protection Act was removed from the NC House Transportation Committee agenda for tomorrow. This week is the legislative deadline for passing measures which do not involve money. There were no appropriations in the Bicycle Protection Act, so it is effectively dead.
It’s at once irritating (the committee doesn’t feel [...]

Activism: Email to NC House Rep George Cleveland (NC-House 14) RE: Bicycle Protection Act

As I mentioned yesterday, the NC House Transportation Committee is meeting Tuesday and will consider House Bill 1451 – Bicycle Protection Act. If you live in North Carolina, I hope you’ll write your representatives, especially if they’re members of the House Transportation Committee, as is Mr. Cleveland.
The following is the text of the email I [...]

Car-Free: The Wheels on the Bike Go ‘Round and ‘Round…

May is National Bicycle Month. May 11th to 15th is Bicycle to Work Week and May 15th is Bicycle to Work Day. If you can’t ride all month or all week, shoot for Friday. Think you can’t commute by bicycle? Guess again, my friends. Unfortunately, there are no events sponsored by the City of Jacksonville [...]

City of Jacksonville: Trails and Greenways Commission: April 20th Notes

The City of Jacksonville Trails and Greenways Commission met Monday, April 20th.
The minutes from the March 16th meeting were approved.
There were no presentations, but Mr. Mike Wetzel reminded Commission members that City staff (as well as outside agency staff (i.e. JUMPO, NCDOT, contractors, etc)) could be requested to provide presentations on on-going projects.
Mr. [...]

Onslow County Politics: Joe McLaughlin Killed My Buzz

Earlier this week (I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday morning) I was bicycling to work and had this flitting thought:
I haven’t heard the names “Joe McLaughlin” or “Delma Collins” in a while. Isn’t that nice?"

And it was, it was very nice…But it wasn’t to last very long. Follow the jump for details.

Transit: An Email Regarding Smart Transportation for Jacksonville/Onslow County and Eastern NC

The following is an email sent to Representative George Cleveland (Rep, NC House-14) and Senator Harry Brown (Rep, NC Senate-6). Brown and Cleveland have been assigned to their respective Transportation Committees and are in positions that could bring NC DOT efforts to the Jacksonville/Onslow area and Eastern North Carolina.
Congratulations on your appointment to the NC [...]

Smoke-Free: An Email Sent Regarding NC House Bill 2 : Prohibit Smoking in Public and Work Places

The text of an email I sent to North Carolina House of Representatives members George Cleveland, Robert Grady and Russell Tucker in support of House Bill 2 (Prohibit Smoking in Public & Work Places)
I strongly urge you, dear readers that live in NC, to write your House representatives and support this legislation. Feel free to [...]

2010 Elections: Craig Weber Announces Third Bid for Jones, Jr’s Seat

In what can only be described as an egomaniacal trip down horror alley, Craig Weber has announced via email his third bid for North Carolina’s Third Congressional seat.
The text is below.
To all,
I want to thank you for every effort that you made in this past election.  It took a bit of time to come [...]

Elections 2008: Updates

It’s been 4 days since Election Day. I haven’t updated the Elections Page, but I will. There’s just been a lot to process (politically and otherwise) for me.
Senator Barack Obama won by a pretty large margin (his 53% to McCain’s 46%). Check out President-Elect Obama’s Transition Office’s website for more information on his transition staff and [...]
