Jacksonville Daily News: Former Councilman Bittner Feels “Affronted” by Green City Comments

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Today’s Jacksonville Daily News has a Letter to the Editor from former Jacksonville City Councilman Jerry Bittner. Mr. Bittner feels that the impact of previous City Councils was minimized by comments made by City Manager Kristoff Bauer (and myself, though Bittner didn’t call me out on it).
Bittner points to the Rails-to-Trails project (which Bittner didn’t [...]

Below is my letter requesting that the four elected representatives from Onslow County (State Senator Harry Brown (NC Sen 6) and State Representatives Russell Tucker (NC House 4), George Cleveland (NC House 14) and Robert Grady (NC House 15)) work with their colleagues in the NC General Assembly and the North Carolina Department of Transportation [...]

Jacksonville NC: A Green Commuter Community?

Monday, September 15th, 2008

The previously mentioned Jacksonville Daily News article has been published.
My above linked previous post sets the premise of the article, so I won’t repeat it here. I will point out new information, though.
Like Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips’ bogus claim that the City has “done a lot” to promote alternative transportation:
“We’re certainly proud of that designation,” [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 4 in Review

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Today marks the end of the 4th week of being car-free (It won’t be a full calendar month until Monday).
It’s ironic to me that, on today, the 4 week “anniversary” of selling the Silver Rhino, gasoline prices have skyrocketed in Eastern NC.
Insofar as commuting this week, it’s been routine. I ride to work. I [...]

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The Jacksonville Daily News printed a slightly revised version of this post as a letter to the editor in today’s paper.
To save some frustration for my more reasonable readers, please by-pass the first letter on the page.
Just thought I’d share.

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

In case you missed last night’s Twitter flurry (view my profile history), the Jacksonville City Council considered and approved the Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan.
Councilman Randy Thomas who cast the lone dissenting vote, was confused about the purpose of this plan. Other City residents, such as Mr. Robert Hitch, are also confused.
The [...]

Also be aware that the Mayor and Council will be voting on the Plan [...]

Here’s a Reason for the Jacksonville Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

The Jacksonville Daily News reports.
Around 11:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling west on Lejeune Boulevard hit two bicyclists heading in the same direction — sending one into the water under the bridge, Teeter said.

Emergency Rescue crews found the body this morning.
The driver left the scene (or, rather, didn’t bother stopping) and hasn’t been found.
This [...]

Jacksonville Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Workshops

The last time we heard about the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, the folks from Greenways, Inc [...]
