My first meeting at the Jacksonville Trails and Greenways Commission was last evening. It went well and I was particularly glad to have been a participant in a late addition to the agenda (more on that later).
The Commission discussed the following:
The new Trails and Greenways brochure – City staff is working on an [...]

Remember my letter to the Jacksonville City Council regarding the vacancy in the Trails and Greenways Commission? It may have had an impact…
I was nominated and appointed to the Trails and Greenways Commission during Wednesday’s council meeting.
The video is below.
Some notes:
Apparently, they got my letter. Mayor Phillips and Councilwoman Williams specifically mentioned it.
Councilman Thomas, [...]

As I mentioned before, the City Council will visit the nomination process at their Wednesday, November 5th Council meeting. I would appreciate any and all support if you feel that I would be an able representative on the Commission.
The text of the letter is below. Please feel free to use it for ideas for your [...]

I’m recovering from the end of a four-day weekend (AM and I took Thursday and Friday off, as well as the standard Saturday/Sunday weekend).
We got Dexter neutered and had his shots updated.
We voted. Early voting is really easy and takes very little time. There really is no excuse, folks. Please, go vote.
We set up AM’s bike so [...]

This week held a couple of interesting during-commute events.
I met a fellow cycling commuter on the ride home earlier in the week. Nice guy on a free box-store bike. He needed some saddle advice. It was kind of nice to actually talk to someone on the ride instead of just being passed with barely a [...]

Today’s Jacksonville Daily News has a Letter to the Editor from former Jacksonville City Councilman Jerry Bittner. Mr. Bittner feels that the impact of previous City Councils was minimized by comments made by City Manager Kristoff Bauer (and myself, though Bittner didn’t call me out on it).
Bittner points to the Rails-to-Trails project (which Bittner didn’t [...]

The previously mentioned Jacksonville Daily News article has been published.
My above linked previous post sets the premise of the article, so I won’t repeat it here. I will point out new information, though.
Like Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips’ bogus claim that the City has “done a lot” to promote alternative transportation:
“We’re certainly proud of that designation,” [...]

I rode the Jacksonville Transit bus to work today.
Unfortunately for me, the current route is begins in Downtown Jacksonville (at 6am) and ends in Camp Lejeune’s Midway Park housing area (at 7:30am). Also unfortunately for me, the bus doesn’t go to Camp Lejeune’s main entrance. I have to walk from Midway Park to the gate [...]

The Jacksonville Daily News printed a slightly revised version of this post as a letter to the editor in today’s paper.
To save some frustration for my more reasonable readers, please by-pass the first letter on the page.
Just thought I’d share.
