Car-Free: Work Week 13 in Review

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Another week, albeit a very short one (three days).
It wasn’t that cold this week, but it was pretty wet. Here’s hoping for some fenders for Giftmas.
There hasn’t been much to report on the riding. The mileage is a low just-less than 40 miles.

Car-Free: Don’t Cross the Jinx, ‘Cuz the Jinx will Cross You

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I did it. I did it all. And I did it all to myself.
On the way to work this morning, the Camp Lejeune gate guard made me stop to check my identification. The problem? It was a last-minute stop and I lost my balance. I did not fall, but the bicycle did. No serious damage, [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 12 in Review

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

It certainly doesn’t seem like it’s been three months worth of work weeks, but, I suppose the counting does not lie. I’ll hit 90 calendar days car-free next Saturday (15th).
I despise the end of Daylight Saving Time. Instead of biking to work in the morning darkness and home in evening light, I’ve been biking in [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 11 in Review

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Another week.
It was cold (30’s in the mornings) on the rides in and cool and windy on the rides home. I wore my biking shorts under sweat-pants, athletic T-shirt under a sweat shirt under a fleece under a wind-breaker on the coldest days and left the jacket off when it wasn’t so cold. My [...]

Random Stuff

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I’m recovering from the end of a four-day weekend (AM and I took Thursday and Friday off, as well as the standard Saturday/Sunday weekend).
We got Dexter neutered and had his shots updated.
We voted. Early voting is really easy and takes very little time. There really is no excuse, folks. Please, go vote.
We set up AM’s bike so [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 10 in Review

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Yes, it’s a Thursday week in review. I only worked three days this week. Don’t be jealous.
It’s been cold ‘round these parts. I’ve upgraded the cold-weather gear to my short-sleeved athletic shirt under a sweatshirt and a fleece pull-over. I wear long-fingered gloves over the cycling gloves and have neoprene ear-muffs. So far, it’s been [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 9 in Review

Friday, October 17th, 2008

It’s been more than two months since I’ve given up driving on a regular basis. I still have no regrets or concerns.
This week has been a little different than previous weeks.
On Monday, I rode to Mini’s to check on her cats. No yells or things tossed my way.
I had my first night-time commute [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 8 in Review

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Another week goes by.
A few things to note:
I surpassed 500 commuted miles.
I didn’t bicycle to work (or, even go) on Wednesday. I was home with a migraine.
I was nearly clipped by a green Landrover driven by a young Marine yesterday evening. I was on Bayshore waiting on the traffic light so I could [...]

Car-Free: 500 Commuting Miles

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Sometime during my commute home last evening I surpassed the “500 commuting miles” marker.
If my math and guesstimation are correct, it would’ve been about the halfway mark which is about on the pedestrian bridge across Highway 24/Lejeune Blvd. A fitting image, I think, so I’ll stick with it.
I’ve commuted nearly every workday the almost [...]

Car-Free: Work Week 7 and the Weekend in Review

Monday, October 6th, 2008

This week held a couple of interesting during-commute events.
I met a fellow cycling commuter on the ride home earlier in the week. Nice guy on a free box-store bike. He needed some saddle advice. It was kind of nice to actually talk to someone on the ride instead of just being passed with barely a [...]
