2009 Elections: Filing Season Begins

The Jacksonville Daily News has a story, but it doesn’t name any of the “numerous people interested” in replacing Willingham, Sullivan, Williams or Thomas on the Jacksonville City Council.

Alva Williams has an interesting quotation, though:

"We’re not through with our work yet…I hope the voting public is smart enough to figure it out that we are looking out for their best interests. It’s a fine line you have to walk."

Is that a veiled poke at the intelligence of those that would speak out or campaign against her?

I’ll be updating as I get information on Twitter and here as I can.

    Thomas Brock:

It’s the last day of filing for municipal candidates. So far, all incumbents (Willingham (Ward 1), Sullivan (Ward 2), Williams (At-Large) and Thomas (At-Large) have filed for re-election.

    The challengers:

Ward 1 : NONE. Unless someone files today, Council-member Willingham will have an easy cruise into a four-year term as City Council-member.

Ward 2 : Former City Council-member Jerry Bittner has filed to run against Ms. Sullivan. Bittner is also a former City Manager and he was part of the Council that hired Mr. Bauer. That may give him a base of support with City employees and those residents that were dissappointed with Bauer’s ouster.

At-Large: Developer Hunter Hadley, Jr., local construction guy and member of the Jacksonville Planning Board Robert Warden and local…Outspoken resident Kevin O’Connor have filed for At-Large seats.
