City of Jacksonville: Statement Made during the January 6th, 2009 City Council Meeting

I made a statement to the Jacksonville City Council during their January 6th, 2009 meeting. Video is directly below and text below that.

I’d like to thank the City Council and the City staff for their efforts to improve the community in which we all live. The Rails-to-Trails project and its pedestrian bridges, the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Center and adjoining trails, parks and tennis courts and the Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan are steps to making our City more livable. The Council and City staff deserve, but too often don’t receive, the thanks and appreciation of the community.

The current and prior councils have received a bad rap in the newspaper from a few outspoken citizens. These citizens do not use the trail or the bridge. Please be aware that the many people that use the trail appreciate it and your efforts.

I’d also like to thank the Council for supporting my appointment to the Trails and Greenways Commission. Specifically, I want to thank Mr. Thomas for your support. It is an honor to serve the community of Jacksonville and I hope to represent its residents well.

Thank you for your time and consideration and for the hard work that you and City staff do for Jacksonville and all its residents, the grateful and appreciative and the not-so-much.

Blue line
