2008 Presidential Elections: McCain Win a Christian Mandate?

If you follow me on Twitter, you’d see several different places that have pointed to what I’ve called a “hijacking” of the Christian faith for political means. After some reading, though, I think it’s much more insidious than a mere hijack.
I think many Christians and Christian religious leaders are hoping for a McCain win as it would point to a “Christian mandate” and would prove that the Christian god is “better” than any other. And, if that’s the case, it makes me afraid for the future of the United States.
James Protzman (who’s a published author) at BlueNC posted this video:
What could a “Christian Mandate” mean for Americans?
- Denial of the right to choose to have, or not to have, an abortion.
- Further restriction of access to birth control.
- Further restriction of advanced genetic research.
- Further restriction of education practices related to sex, sexuality and safe-sex practices.
- Continued denial of equal rights for all Americans.
- Continued use of government monies to further religious programs.
None of that is good, my friends, none of it.

The Christian right would love to get hold of the White House and Congress again. But they have done enough damage in the last eight years that public is tired of them. Even the Evangelical Sarah Palin cannot help the religious right this time.

Thanks for the comment, < a href="http://blameislam.blogspot.com/">Ajaz.
You would think that Americans would be tired of the Christian Right’s influence on politics and policy. It’s been my experience, especially recently, that Americans aren’t always very logical.
Americans aren’t always logical at all, < a href="http://blameislam.blogspot.com/">Ajaz, and I still fear that McCain/Palin could win in November.
