Car-Free: Work Week 5 In Review

Other than the weather turning a bit chilly in the mornings and a few run-ins with bike-ninjas, there’s really nothing exciting to report about the commute. I know it’s boring for you guys to read, but I’d much rather bore you than have to deal with something like this every day. I’m just kind of selfish that way.

As it is, though, I still look for that woman because I’m going to ask her why she cursed at me, if I see her.

This week’s total mileage was 67.33 miles: All commute, no recreation rides.

I missed a great opportunity to rack up the recreation miles this weekend. The Onslow County’s Annual City to the Sea Ride was today. The City to the Sea ride is a 21-mile course from the Food Lion on Piney Green Road to Hammock’s Beach State Park in Swansboro. Unfortunately, since the Jacksonville Daily News didn’t publish anything about until today’s print edition. The website edition didn’t post until after 10am. I’ve long had issues with the Daily News’ policy on event announcements and this is just another example. I’m thinking that it’s not reasonable to publish an event’s announcement only once, much less only once and on the same day as the event…But what do I know?

Tomorrow (Monday, September 22nd, 2008) is World Carfree Day. There are no events or anything in the area, but I’m asking that you do what you can to be carfree tomorrow.

Blue line

fyi — the bike ride was listed in the Sept. 11 and 18 editions of Max.

    Cyndi,

Thanks for the comment and information.

Unfortunately as I’m not a print subscriber, I don’t get the Max Magazine.

I occasionally look at the website, but it doesn’t appear to have been updated since August 28th. The calendar does list the City to the Sea ride from August 26th, but it’s a little hard to read without paragraph breaks.

Max Magazine isn’t really my source for local news or events. I find that it tries to be a weekly alternative mag…There’s generally not much there that interests me.

Thanks again for the comment and information.
