Car-Free: Work Week 2 in Review

It’s the end of the second full week of car-free fun.

This week had my first over-20 mile day, first commute in the rain, first bus-ride to work, and my first over-50 mile week (over 70 miles, actually). I also got in a nearly-7 mile recreational ride around Camp Lejeune.

The lessons learned are thus:

  • I need panniers. I rode home in the rain and didn’t want to risk getting my PC wet, so I left it at the office. Riding without the backpack is a whole other world than riding with one. I need water-proof panniers to carry my stuff.
  • I need fenders. Riding in the rain without them just covered my legs, water-bottle and drive-train in mud and sand. Totally not cool.
  • Sometimes all you need is a nice, slow, relaxed ride around and a book to read to make your day a little better.

Here are the daily stats. The week’s total mileage is 70.55 miles.

One other thing…I stepped on the scale this morning and weighed in at 193 lbs. I felt kind of good about that.
