Car-Free: Leading up to the Decision

In the weeks and days leading up to my decision to go car-free, I talked to several of my closest friends to make sure I wasn’t making a bad, or rash, decision.
Not all of them were 100% sure I wasn’t loony, either. Ms. Steinfeld suggested that I park the Rhino for a month before making a final decision.
Under what I’d consider normal circumstances, I would’ve agreed with her. The factor she didn’t, couldn’t really, take into consideration is that I am a colossal wimp. I would’ve used the parked car as a crutch to never become fully independent of it. And it’s the independence that I want: The freedom from car, insurance and fuel payments. As long as the key-fob was on the key ring and the Rhino in the parking lot, it’d be available. If it were available, it’d be used.
So, I found a buyer and sold The Silver Rhino. Was it rash? Was it a bad decision? Are there factors I didn’t consider? I’m pondering these questions. And, I’m sure that there are things I didn’t consider and certainly things that may happen that I couldn’t consider.
But, hey, we can either let life happen or make life happen. Which would you prefer?

I congratulate you on not being a “colossal wimp” when you were trying to make your decision. So far you’re the only one of my friends brave enough to be that self-reliant.

My only question is, how will you get to this Mini person’s house you tweet about all the time?
