Why did Louis Baker try to ruin Fatty’s Leadville 100?

Why, Louis Baker, why?

Fatty tells the story.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet racer #845, aka Louis Baker. Louis — feeling the neutral start did not apply to him, but lacking the skill to ignore rules safely - elbowed me as he surged by, then hooked my handlebars and sent me to the pavement.

Louis went on to finish the 100-mile mountain bike race in 10 hours, 38 minutes, more than a half-hour behind Fatty’s 10 hours, 6 minutes.

So, Louis Baker, why did you trip up Fatty at the beginning of a 100-mile mountain bike race? It clearly didn’t get you anywhere…Nor did it get you there faster…
