Here’s a Reason for the Jacksonville Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan
The Jacksonville Daily News reports.
Around 11:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling west on Lejeune Boulevard hit two bicyclists heading in the same direction — sending one into the water under the bridge, Teeter said.
Emergency Rescue crews found the body this morning.
The driver left the scene (or, rather, didn’t bother stopping) and hasn’t been found.
This highlights the need for an extensive bicycle and pedestrian plan for Jacksonville. Sidewalks, bicycle lanes, increased driver (and law enforcement) education, safe cross-walks and total enforcement of the laws (as opposed to the Jacksonville Police Department’s current policy of “selective enforcement”) will make Jacksonville safer for those of us that use alternative means of transportation.
It’s a sad day in Jacksonville.

It’s absurd that Jacksonville lacks a network of sidewalks. I see construction everywhere for new roads (ie 9A extension), but what about pedestrian/cyclist friendly infrastructure? The way Jax is growing, the city really needs to take these weaknesses into consideration as it develops. We need to make way for the future Greening of Jacksonville.
Anyone want to start up a local Critical Mass?
