The Jacksonville Daily News: Lindell Kay and His Readers Respond

…to my post (If you haven’t seen the comments there, you should take the time).

But, more importantly, you should read Kay’s direct response on his blog. Because, in that post, Kay has proven that he’s completely missed the point of my criticism of the Jacksonville Daily News.

Lindell thinks I take pleasure in pointing out the frequent misspellings and poorly written articles. The truth, though, is not so obvious.

Lindell and the rest of the Daily Newsers are paid published professional writers. I expect better from a group of people that have the privilege of being published and read each and every day by tens of thousands of people. I expect better from the people that are doing what I can only do in my dreams. But there they are, spitting out articles consisting of fragmented sentences, misspelled words, and factual errors. There they are, paid published professional writers with what can only be called a minor concern, a passing regard, for the written word.

  1. Dude, it is not a dreamy job. It is dirty, grimy and tedious. And when you get it right, you were supposed to. When you get it wrong, you are an unprofessional dumbass.

I don’t think I missed the point at all. I am still sick to my stomach about it and did not want to go to work today.

You see, Brock, the thing about tens of thousands of people reading your articles every day is that tens of thousands of people see when you screw up.

The Internet is cool because it can be changed when a mistake like that happens. The print edition is forever.

Be careful what you wish for…

  2. [...] author of the article in question answered Tom’s blog entry with one of his own.  And Tom has defended his original position.  This won’t come as a surprise to those of you who have been reading my blog for any [...]

  3. As a former reporter & editor, it makes me ill what gets through to press these days. Three people missed the VICTIM’s NAME? Come on. Typos are one thing. That’s something else. Yikes.

  4. That one LK post is in dire need of a good editor. Maybe Timmi can do it on her next visit to the site.

LK, you are your own worst enemy. Be thankful that you have a job that allows you to perform so poorly and complain about it.

Mr. Brock [aka Dude] said it so eloquently, “There they are, paid published professional writers with what can only be called a minor concern, a passing regard, for the written word.”

LK, in your very own words, “you are an unprofessional dumbass!”

Dare I suggest a career change? If you are going to stay in your “grimy and tedious job,” at least have the pride to do it “right.” And FGS, please quit whining and sniveling. It is so unbecoming.

  5. Come on, Bob Jones. I thought you were through with me and had moved back to your main focus - Sutherland.

  6. It’s a pleasure to see you again, LK.

The defense attorney will take care of Sutherland & Shane. Please let them know they might want to get their stories to at least jive.

If the ball game gets boring tonight, perhaps I will drive down to your neck of the woods and post a little diddy for you kind folks. Or not.

I am pleased that Thomas Brock is as outraged as I am by what he reads. Thanks for speaking out Mr. Brock.

  7. PS: I hope you will NOT be posting CL’s picture. LMFAO that you think you have “a crowd.”

  8. Thank you, Bob Jones, for your comments. I think, though, your second comment would be better placed on Lindell’s blog rather than here.

  9. Feel free to remove it. Sorry to post & run.

  10. I’m certainly not going to remove it, Bob Jones.

My point is that if you want to reply to a Lindell Kay post, perhaps his blog would be the proper place.
