Open Letter to the Jacksonville Daily News: Double Shame on You for Shoddy Coverage of OOPS Reception and Art Show

Since it didn’t take the first time…
Your blurb (at left and “blurb” is an overstatement) about the OOPS reception and art show at the Jacksonville-Onslow Council for the Arts was pretty sad.
Not only was it poorly written and only a sentence (and a fragment) long, but the photograph of Bernie Rosage, Jr. and his lovely (and growing artist) Olivia isn’t available on the online version of the article.
If you’re not going to print in-depth reports of local events, please do us all a favor and remove “Jacksonville” from your masthead.
Your even-more-embarrassed-reader,
Thomas Brock

Mr. Brock,
I hope that I can explain this without sounding rude because I am really not trying to be. Currently, at JDN, if we are unable to send a reporter due to the amount of news going on, we send a photographer so that there is at least some coverage. There are so many things throughout Onslow County that would make a wonderful story, but there are times when reporters will already be scheduled to be somewhere but a photographer may be able to hit two stops within a time period since some times they are able to get what they need quicker than the reporter. I hope that helps. Have a great day:)

Amanda,
Thank you for visiting and the comment.
I understand that the Jacksonville Daily News has a limited staff of at least 30 people and that it can sometimes be hard to cover all the events in Onslow County. I’m curious, though, exactly how many other events were taking place at 2:30pm on a Sunday?
And, regardless of a writer’s availability during the event, real effort could have been put into the writing of the sentence about the Onslow Outdoor Painter Society event.
