Weekend Wackiness: Jacksonville gives Westboro what they want

So, wasn’t it ever-so predictable that the City of Jacksonville gave the Westboro Baptist Church fruitcakes exactly what they wanted?
Not only did the means-well-but-isn’t-that-smart crowd show up to protest the protest, but the City of Jacksonville Police re-routed traffic in order to keep people away from the protesting Protestants (which, of course, just made people want to see them more).
And, there was a noticeable increase in the JPD presence. Noticeable as in there were at least 8 patrol cars, an ambulance, and a fire-truck in or near the intersection of Hargett and Lejeune Blvd.
Speaking of Jacksonville Police Department…On Saturday around 11am I was traveling through downtown Jacksonville. I’ve “drawn” a diagram to help you “see” what happened. I was heading towards the Court and College Streets intersection. As I began to enter the intersection, a young, red-haired, male Jacksonville City Police Officer in Jacksonville City Police Cruiser #355 failed to stop at the traffic sign and nearly collided with my vehicle.
Where might the intrepid Police Officer have been going? A “police convention” near the church on Anne Street (designated by the gold star).
It was exciting, to say the least, that I was nearly so personally touched by a Jacksonville Police Department Cruiser.
It’s frustrating, you know, living in a city with such mismanagement and incompetence.

What was remarkable though, was that I watched this bicycling officer breeze right through the exact intersection as Jacksonville City Police Cruiser # 355. [...]
