OLF Won’t be in SouthEastern NC

According the New Bern Sun Journal, the U.S. Navy has narrowed the field of candidate counties to two in Northeastern NC and 3 in Virginia.
The Navy has now narrowed the search to five sites: Hale’s Lake in Camden/Currituck counties, Sandbanks in Gates County and three Virginia locations.
“These five alternative sites … will be fully evaluated in a new EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act before making any further decision on constructing an additional OLF,” the Navy said.
Looks like the Onslow County Board of Commissioners got lucky and their inability to address the two sites that’d affect our County were dismissed by the Navy.
